Dunedin Fashion

Dunedin is the South Island's fashion capital, with a variety of boutique and designer stores to be found in and around town. With stores showcasing local and national designers, beautifully handcrafted garments and accessories, and carefully selected international collections, Dunedin is the ideal place to discover the creativity and inspiration behind the colours, patterns and fabrics that New Zealand fashion is now recognised for internationally, as well as the exciting and eclectic work of local designers.

Dunedin even has its own fashion week, iD, the pinnacle of which is the iD Dunedin Fashion Show. The show is hosted on the platform of the city's Railway Station, with a 110m (360 ft) runway! This glamorous night out is an event for the general public and showcases established and emerging designer fashion mainly from Dunedin. There are also various other events, mini-parades and late night shopping sprees throughout the week.

Whilst the George Street shopping area is dominated by boutique and high fashion shops, a number of recycled clothing shops and "Op Shops" can be found just off the main street. For those that want to venture further, either Princess Street or South Dunedin will land you in second-hand heaven. With so many stores to be discovered and rummaged through, you might like to make a day of it.
